Explore the world of work
To start searching for a career path that suits your
interests and abilities, you need to understand the world of
work.
That world is exciting and dynamic. There is a wide range
of work environments, and new industries and occupations
are always developing, at the same time as others decline.
The working world can be divided up in a number of ways.
In Australia, it can be divided into three
sectors: government, private and community.
It’s made up of business and social enterprises that
operate together as
industries. The three levels of industry are primary,
secondary and tertiary.
Within the working world are different groupings of
occupations known as
career fields.
The boundaries between sectors, industries and career fields
are not clearcut. All these groups are interconnected. No
business operates in isolation, and every aspect of working
relies on other enterprises and activities.
