This qualification is part of the Electrotechnology Training Package. It provides competencies to select, assemble, set up and maintain electronic devices following prescribed routines.

Certificates I and II recognise basic vocational skills and knowledge that meet nationally endorsed industry/enterprise competency standards as agreed for those qualifications by the relevant industry, enterprise, community or professional group. They include preparatory and participation skills and knowledge such as: literacy and numeracy; communication skills; working in teams; workplace technology; and industry specific competencies, of increasing complexity and personal accountability at each level of the Certificate qualification. VET qualifications are offered by TAFE Institutes, private providers and some universities.
Vocational Education & Training (VET) courses are offered by TAFE institutions, private providers and some universities. They are accredited by the VET authority in each state or territory. Awards under the new Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) include Certificate I - IV; Diploma and Advanced Diploma (also offered in Higher Education); and Vocational Graduate Certificate and Vocational Graduate Diploma.
Courses are mainly Certificate I and II, as well as individual Units of Competency and some non-award courses. The courses provide training in a limited range of skilled operations on a limited range of equipment at a basic level.
Air conditioning, automotive, cartography, cleaning, electrical, electronics, engineering drafting, fire fighting, food processing, manufacturing (concrete, furniture, glass, rubber, pharmaceuticals, plastics, printing, metals, textiles, clothing & footwear), mechanics, mining, plant operation, processing, refrigeration, survey drafting, surveying, technology, transport, welding.
Structure
7 core units; plus stream core units; plus electives
This Industry Skills Council covers skills development in electro technology, lifts, communications, gas, and electricity generation, transmission and distribution. Training packages covered include: Electricity Supply Industry - Generation; Electricity Supply Industry - Transmission and Distribution; Electrotechnology Industry (e.g. electronic and electrical engineering); Gas Industry; and Lifts Industry.
Applicants must have relevant employment experience and/or be currently employed in a relevant field of work for entry to these courses.
Year 11 is the first year or stage 1 of the two year Senior Secondary Certificate. You can broaden your selection of courses by also selecting 'No Minimum Education' and 'Year 10'.
The Certificate I is awarded on completion of basic skills courses at a pre-vocational or pre-employment level. It may provide entry to a Certificate II.

Subjects

Apply OHS practices in the workplace; Dismantle, assemble and fabricate electrotechnology components; Solve problems in extra-low voltage single path circuits; Solve problems in multiple path DC circuits; Document occupational hazards and risks in electronics; Participate in development and follow a personal competency development plan; Carry out basic repairs to electronic apparatus by replacement of components. Plus stream core units and electives.

Year 11 or equivalent; or any Certificate I; or entrance exam; or 6 months full time equivalent employment experience
