Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences


Fact Sheet

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences degree is offered to students wishing to qualify as an exercise scientist with the Australian Association for Exercise and Sport Science (AAESS). Exercise scientists may work in the areas of sports science, exercise prescription and management in health and fitness centres and hospitals, and act as consultants into community, cardiac rehabilitation and corporate fitness programs. The degree offers a major in Clinical Exercise Physiology that allows registration as an Exercise Physiologist with AAESS with employment opportunities in exercise prescription and programming within the areas of ageing, metabolic disease, cancer, musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory disease.

A Bachelor degree is a higher education sector qualification which provides initial preparation for professional careers and postgraduate study. Graduates will possess a range of academic and vocational attributes such as: an understanding of a systematic and coherent body of knowledge and its underlying principles and concepts; communication and problem solving skills; the ability to undertake research, analyse information and apply knowledge and techniques learnt within an academic or professional context; skills for self-directed and lifelong learning; and interpersonal and teamwork skills appropriate to employment and/or further study. These courses cover Bachelor Degrees. Entry to the courses require completion of Year 12 or an equivalent course of study, for example, Certificate IV. Many course providers offer special entry schemes for mature-age and special categories of applicants.

Year 12 is the last year of secondary school, and the last stage of the two year senior secondary certificate. The name of the Certificate varies according to the state or territory.
