Created to honour Ms Tuck's work as a painter and teacher of distinction, the scholarship is to assist young South Australians to further their professional development and training in the visual arts and design. Established by the South Australian Government in 1994, the scholarship is offered annually.

Applicants must: be Australian citizens or permanent residents; be 26 years of age or under at the closing date for applications; and be undertaking a professional development activity, such as a course of specialist study that falls outside the Austudy award, or an apprenticeship or mentorship with an established practitioner or group.
