As well as wanting a new job, are you thinking about moving house, or moving to a new town or even a new country to work? Maybe you're thinking that someone with your skills can find a better job or more opportunities there. Maybe you just want a change of scenery or culture.
Whatever your reasons, relocating can look like an attractive adventure. After all, if you moved, you'd join a new community, meet new people and have new experiences.
But think about these things before you decide to relocate.
- Compare the cost of living, for a start. What seems like a bigger salary may actually be the same as, or even lower than, your current one, because it costs more to live in the new location.
- Moving can create stresses on relationships. Is your partnership, or marriage, or family strong enough to take the strain?
- What are the job opportunities like in the new place for your partner or other members of your family?
- How will your children cope with moving away from their friends, school and everything that's familiar?
- What will it cost to transport you and all your belongings to the new place?
- What kind of lifestyle do you want? What lifestyle will you have in the new location?
