An exit interview is a meeting between you and your employer
to discuss:
- why you're leaving
- the aspects of the workplace and the job that you enjoyed
- the aspects that were problematic.
Companies often conduct these interviews to understand the
sorts of things that make their staff leave, to identify
employment issues and to define the company's strengths.
Think beforehand about what you will say at the exit
interview. Stick to your plan as closely as possible. You
might be asked for more information, but give it only if
you feel comfortable doing so.
Always be polite and tactful. Keep your answers short and
to the point - don't ramble on. Emphasise the positives. If
you give any criticism, be honest and constructive about
it.
Finish the meeting on a positive note. Perhaps say something
complimentary about the company, the workplace or your
experience in the job.
Even if your experience has not been good in this job, you
might want to thank your employer for this chance to talk
straight about the situation.
Make your farewells pleasantly and professionally to everyone
present at the interview.
